Fabricator: Alan Spear Ltd
Type of works: supply of Comar 6, 7 and 5Lt for glazed façade.

Comar Architectural Aluminium Systems profiles were used for the glazed façade of Cobar House in Truro. The building’s external envelope combines natural-coloured woodwork with White brick and its main feature, Silver and Grey coloured fenestration. Comar 6 50mm curtain walling was specified for the entire glazed frontage. The ladder frame assembled curtain wall was prefabricated prior to installation, which significantly reduced the on-site time. The faceted entrance feature was achieved with Comar 6 corner mullions, which are adjustable to 15° to 145° returns.

The Comar 6 glazed façade integrates double-glazing with aluminium-faced insulated panels. Comar has a range of gaskets and pressure plates which allows panels and glass of different widths to integrate into the same curtain wall, thus eliminating the need to step-cut the panels. For opening vents, Comar 5Lt 45mm top-hung windows were integrated direct into Comar 6. These were selected due to their 45mm width, which minimised sight-lines.

For the entrance, Comar 7 high performance Tempest butt-hung rebated doors were selected. Comar 7 high performance Tempest exceeds the requirements of BS 6375 reporting no water leakage at 1,200Pa, which makes the suite ideal for projects where weather efficiency in harsh conditions is a prerequisite.

All Comar profiles were silver anodised with complementing RAL Grey panels. This created a sleek installation where sight-lines were a feature. Due to the successful installation which was completed on time, Alan Spear Ltd was awarded more contracts by the same contractor on the same site.
