Colouring Up With Marley Eternit's Cedral Weatherboard

Marley Eternit’s fibre cement Cedral Weatherboard has been specified on a contemporary EcoHomes ‘Very Good’ rated development by Taylor Wimpey in Ashford, Kent.

Cedral Weatherboard in colours White, Beige Yellow and Blue Grey feature extensively on balconies, around windows, car ports and feature walls. Taylor Wimpey selected Cedral Weatherboard for their Repton Park development to add visual interest and create a modern, low maintenance facade, whilst still retaining the appealing aesthetics of natural timber.

The subtly textured surface on Cedral Weatherboard makes it look like timber, whilst the fibre cement offers long term low maintenance benefits – being made from fibre cement means that Cedral Weatherboard won’t warp, shrink or decay over time, or need regular maintenance and re-painting, it also has an installed life expectancy of at least 50 years.

Cedral Weatherboard was fixed in a shiplap configuration on the Repton Park properties, which incorporates a rear-ventilated cavity to provide the buildings with enhanced weather performance benefits.

Cedral Weatherboard does not require specialist installation skills – it can be cut, nailed and screwed just like timber. Taylor Wimpey’s site team used nail guns to fix the boards directly to timber battens anchored to the blockwork walls.

“We specified Cedral Weatherboard because it provides homebuyers with a low maintenance solution that will retain the aesthetic appeal of their properties,” said Jason Stokes, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey South East. “The fact the range can achieve a BRE A+ rating was important on these properties, which were built to EcoHomes Very Good standards.”

He added: “Using three subtle shades of Cedral Weatherboard allowed us to add visual interest to the properties, which has already resulted in several positive comments from prospective homebuyers.”

Cedral Weatherboard is available in 22 factory applied colours and four woodstain finishes, along with a range of matching coloured aluminium trims. In addition, Cedral Weatherboard has fire classifications A2-s1, d0 limited combustibility and EN 13501-1,

Fibre cement Cedral Weatherboard can achieve an A+ rating as defined in the BRE’s Green Guide to Specification based on generic rating for autoclaved fibre cement (calcium silicate) cladding - (Element Ref: 806220701, 806220675, 806220676). This was an important part of helping the Repton Park properties meet EcoHomes ‘Very Good’.
