Architect:Child Graddon Lewis
Originally a print works, the building was constructed in the latter part of the 19th Century and has until recently been used primarily as a retail outlet. Lying in the heart of the theatre district and within a Westminster Conservation Area, this portion of Covent Garden has become a desirable residential area.
The building now features a total of twelve apartments on the upper floors with a new extension at roof level enabling the formation of three large penthouses with views over central London.
This project for Gannon Homes involves the complete refurbishment of this turn of the century building located in the heart of Covent Garden. Blairs Windows worked closely with the contractor, Bennett Construction, in project managing the complete package of survey, supply and installation of all the windows, doors and shop fronts to the building. The logistical challenges were immense given the city centre location with all demolition works and heavy construction works being micro-planned to ensure maximum efficiency on site whilst avoiding any possible disruption to the general public or neighbours.
The original aesthetics of the exterior had to be strictly adhered to and Blairs Windows Solutions worked with the Architect, Child Graddon Lewis, to smoothly meet all planning requirements. The inside of the building was completely re-built with modern design and contemporary materials.
Blairs Windows project managed the on time installation of all the traditional windows for the luxury apartments and the contemporary shop fronts to the retail units meeting regularly with the Quantity Surveyor, Philip Pank.
The completed installation resulted in the restoration and modernisation of this impressive building where classic appearance meets modern performance.
