When Martin and Karen Buchanan moved into their new build property, they wanted to create a seamless transition between the garden and living space. This three door bi-fold in Hipca White from Origin was the perfect solution.

The Buchman’s were moving out of Glasgow city to a more rural location to raise their young family. Their new build property took almost two years to complete, but they were ecstatic about moving in once it was.

When Origin visited to hear about their project, the family had already been living in the property for a little over six months.

“The most difficult task was choosing which Origin product to go with - whether it was for sliding or bi-fold doors.” In the end, they chose the bi-fold doors because they allow greater flexibility for entertaining and creating the seamless link between the indoors and outdoors that they were looking for.

As parents to three children, bi-fold doors also provide the family with a good indoor-outdoor lifestyle by allowing the children to have more room to manoeuvre and play without obstacles or trip hazards in the way. The Buchanan’s also love hosting friends and family for dinner, and the addition of bi-fold doors creates a fantastic transitional space between the kitchen and the garden.

“With Origin’s bi-fold door range, there are a number of things we were able to change in order to make the doors just how we wanted them, from height, size and colours through to accessories.” To give a sleek and modern finish, the Buchanan’s decided to use Hipca White (9910G) as their main door colour and opted for matching colour-coded hardware.

The choice of white also allowed greater flexibility when choosing furnishings as the neutral tone easily integrates with any interior décor choices. The windows were kept white too to keep an integrated look.

When asked what was important when the family were choosing their doors, Martin responded: “The product quality and thermal efficiency were of most importance.” Living in Scotland where the weather can vary drastically and experience harsh winters, they wanted something that would provide good insulation when they needed it most, keeping the warmth in and the cold out.
