Based at their125,000 sq ft production facility in Staffordshire, the litter bins and recycling bins team has embraced a raft of changes brought in through their continuous investment programme Project Transform.

Broxap's latest improvement is the installation of a specialist conveyor system within the litter bins fabrication engineering unit.

By delivering products direct to work stations and offering real-time tracking, operations are kept running without interruption. At the same time they are providing a healthier, safer working environment for their skilled workforce.

While Broxap were producing about 100 bins a day, the new system now supports the manufacture of 80 bins every three hours. This is because the new system removes the need for workers to handle heavy loads and gives operatives greater control over the production process.

The conveyor system to keep litter and recycling bin production processes running smoothly complements wider factory improvements.

The new conveyor takes the litter and recycling bins straight from fabrication into Broxap’s unique Protex powder coating system and from there to the finishing unit, however the engineering process for these products often starts at their in-house laser cutting facility.

The introduction of the Amada Ensis fibre laser cutter reduced the need for us to send flat sheet metal off site, giving clients a greater choice of custom fabrication options, cutting carbon emissions and improving manufacturing efficiency.

This was further enhanced with investment in a number of press brakes with automatic tool change functions, assisting metalworkers skilled in bending and rolling the sheet metal into shape.

From there the conveyor travels through the fabrication bays, providing a safe material handling solution while making it easier for Broxap's teams to complete their work. Linking to the
Protex powder coating plant within their factory, this incorporates a highly innovative pretreatment stage, allowing for precision powder coating and is extremely energy efficient.

The system has increased capacity for decorative powder coatings at the factory and it delivers on Broxap’s high standards for a durable, long-lasting and superior product finish. Once powder coated, the litter and recycling bins again join the conveyor system to the finishing area where options such as graphics, lettering, logos, bands and ashtrays are added.

The final leg of the journey is into packing and dispatch.
