Crown Paints honours Hull volunteers

Crown Paints has provided paint in 56 colours to help celebrate the work of more than 2,500 volunteers who made Hull UK City of Culture 2017 a major success.

Artist Julia Vogl has created an exciting space in the Humber Street Gallery in the heart of the city centre to capture the spirit of the people behind the event.

She has created an experience that makes people feel like they are walking into a graph, expressing the sentiments and feedback of the volunteers involved in the programme – namely ‘joy, fantastic, life changing, exciting, urgent, challenging and fun.’

Julia said: “I was invited by the Hull UK City of Culture Volunteer team to be an artist in residence and create a work that reflected the 2,500 plus individuals that made up the volunteers for the city in 2017.

“When I saw the Humber Street Gallery space, I started to think of it holistically and was encouraged to create a work that would get volunteers in the making of the show.

“It was at that point I thought that if I could get a lot of paint I could easily engage volunteers of all abilities to take part in transforming the gallery.

“It was then I was introduced to Crown Paints and I am so grateful to them and the volunteers for their enthusiasm in supporting the vision.”

Crown Paints’ products were used in 56 colours – three of which were custom made for the artwork – across a wall and floor surface covering 312 square metres.

The project wraps up a successful time for Crown Paints as Business Club partners to Hull UK City of Culture 2017
