The challenges of 2020 have seen many more commuters and shoppers choosing more sustainable ways to travel than ever before. Out of town park and ride sites provide the perfect opportunity to do this with commuters choosing to either:

• Drive to their P&R site locker, then hop on their bike to complete their journey.
• Cycle to the P&R locker and jump on a bus to complete their journey.

Cycle-Works has worked with several UK county councils to install secure cycle lockers at their Park & Ride sites. Including York, Chester, and Cambridge.

In Cambridge after an initial trial, the proven, tested and secure Velo-Box lockers became a much-needed addition. As a result, over 200 lockers have since been installed by the Cycle-Works professional team.

The council manage these lockers and rent them out for a key deposit and monthly rental fee. At other locations Cycle-Works manage the rental hire of the lockers for our clients.

The cycle lockers have been colour-coded to match the bus route they are serving.

Most of the lockers Cycle-Works installed for Cambridgeshire County Council are single-sided Velo-Boxes for access from one side, however, some sites had the room for the space-saving double-sided version.

The locker hire scheme in Cambridge and York has been so successful that more lockers have been ordered to meet the increase in demand.

These lockers are aimed at regular users and promote the integrated use of cycling and buses. This healthy and environmentally friendly way of commuting reduces unnecessary car journeys, therefore helping to ease road congestion.

At Chester and York the council also opted for the unique wedge shaped Velo-Safe lockers which can be installed in a variety of space saving layouts, such as semi-circles.

Cyclists enjoy the peace of mind that their bicycles are kept dry and safe while stored. Accessories such as high viz jackets, rain gear, helmets and lights can also be stored safely.

Cycle-Works Velo-box lockers are viewed as both economical and extremely strong. Two bikes can be installed into one unit with a door on both ends, a full-size steel internal divider separates the two bikes and keeps each unit secure.

The innovative British design and construction also includes one of the strongest locking systems available on the market.

Cycle-Works lockers have been tested by Sold Secure and awarded Silver in their ‘Bicycle’ section. They have also been approved by Secured by Design.
