Ecobuild preview, NorDan: soundproof, secure and sustainable

NorDan, the leading supplier of high performance environmentally friendly doors and windows, will feature the NTech Passive window with its impressively low whole window U-value of 0.7 W/m2K on its stand at Ecobuild 2009, highlighting its sustainable qualities.

The NTech Passive provides outstanding energy saving with exceptionally low embodied energy. It’s ideal for architects and specifiers working on projects where reducing heat loss and conserving energy is key both for refurbishment and housing association regeneration schemes, with the NTech Passive achieving a 54% reduction in energy loss over Building Regulation standards.

NorDan is certified and fully audited by independent third party PEFC (the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) to guarantee that all timber used in the manufacturing process achieves full Chain of Custody. This ensures that the wood comes from sustainably managed sources which plant more trees than are cut down for processing. The saplings are better adapted for reducing atmospheric CO2 than mature trees, further reducing greenhouse gases, and in some cases deciduous trees are planted within conifer forests to encourage a diversity of wildlife.

The NorDan stand at Ecobuild 2009 will also highlight the company’s security credentials, with windows and doors specified to the police-preferred Secured by Design accreditation. Inward-opening windows are proven to be more difficult to break into than outward opening and NorDan’s popular three-handled inward opening tilt and turn window has been in continuous production for more than 40 years.

NorDan bonds the glass into the glazing rebates so it cannot be removed from the outside without breaking the unit and in addition the company can supply a range of special security glass enhancements for burglary resistance from laminated to toughened glass.

Visitors to the stand can also experience the effective sound reducing qualities of NorDan windows with a specially constructed soundproof pod. All NorDan acoustic tests are based on the whole window performance, not just the glass, with the optimum NorDan window solution providing a sound reduction of 48dB(A).
