Enhance outdoor areas with AKRI Steel Retaining Planters [Blog]

A blog written by Furnitubes...

It’s no secret that plants and greenery soften and colour the landscape, add texture and improve mental health and well-being. With that in mind, Furnitubes created AKRI steel retaining walls as a flexible, modular solution to introduce planting to busy urban environments.

AKRI, even in the busiest of cities, helps contribute to local biodiversity and lets people engage with nature. AKRI provides a versatile solution for creating raised planting schemes in any public area bringing nature, trees and plants together in one space.

AKRI consists of:

AKRI300 and AKRI600 2m straight and curved panels
• A range of heights from 300mm to 1100mm
• Available in a range of materials and finishes
• Lightweight solution, ideal for courtyards, podiums and roof gardens
• Timber benches can be integrated or retro-fitted
• Backrests are optional and come in different finishes
• Armrests can be added in different positions and finishes

AKRI makes it easy for large planting beds to become part of a wider scheme. Adaptable and unique, this solution puts the designer in the driver's seat, with more creative licence through shapes, curves and finishes to achieve the desired look.

Key features:

• ARUP certified
• Sustainable and cost-effective retaining wall solution
• Creative freedom with shapes, curves and sizes
• Available in a range of materials and finishes
• Lightweight panels
• Quick lead time to meet project deadlines
• Retrofitting options available now with additional integrated seating

AKRI allows the specifier to specify for multiple projects (large or small) and create a unique solution designed to meet the needs of any scheme.

Made from recycled steel, and crafted from both straight (AKRI300) and curved (AKRI600) panels, AKRI planters are a sustainable and cost-effective solution compared with traditional masonry walls or smaller sit-on top planters.

There are a wide range of material and finish options to suit, there’s even the optional addition of integrated seating, adding another convenient and beautiful element.

Materials and Finishes:

• CorTen
• Stainless Steel
• Powder Coated Mild Steel

Seat slats are offered in Iroko timber as standard which changes in colour over time from UV exposure. To maintain its original look and feel, Furnitubes recommend treating the timber with a UV protective coating that will preserve a richer colouration over a longer period of time compared with untreated timber.
