Two of Moving Design Ltd's 4.3 metre, Prestige Movable Walls were selected for installation in a 200+-year-old listed building in Darlington. As a listed structure, this building held significant architectural and historical value. Their primary goal was to enhance its functionality while meticulously preserving its heritage features.
Brief
1.Building Context: Given its listed status, the building required special consideration during any renovation. Moving Designs successfully navigated the delicate balance between modernisation and historical preservation, ensuring the project's integrity.
2. Space Optimisation: The challenge was to maximise the available space while being sensitive to the original features. Achieving this balance was crucial for the building's overall functionality.
3. Aesthetics: The design of their Prestige movable wall needed to seamlessly integrate with the existing architecture and harmonise with the building's historical context.
Proposed Solutions
1. Flexibility with Movable Walls
Their Movable Walls allow for flexible room configurations. It can be opened to create larger spaces, facilitating the hosting of events, or closed to divide areas as needed, providing privacy for smaller gatherings or meetings. Using strategically placed movable walls, we adapted the layout to meet modern requirements without compromising the building's historical integrity.

The approach involved respecting the original design. The Prestige harmoniously blended with the existing features, including the timber framework and distinctive bricks.
