EOS Facades provides infill for Royal Gateway

OVERVIEW

Situated at the gateway to London’s Royal Docks in Canning Town, Royal Gateway is an impressive mixed-use project, consisting of 336 homes and 13 commercial units at ground, mezzanine, and first-floor level, totalling 2,025 sq metres of creative, retail and artisan space.

Royal Gateway is part of a larger scheme for the regeneration of Canning Town and Royal Docks, to reinvigorate the two acre site previously occupied by two flourishing businesses Goswell Bakeries and Moss Electrical and rebuild the once vibrant community whilst providing new homes, encouraging businesses and attracting forward-thinking enterprises.

DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION

During the design and construction of Royal Gateway, key considerations needed to be made to efficiently incorporate five residential blocks, ranging from six to fifteen storeys and 2,637m2 of commercial/light industrial space, as well as 100 car parking spaces and 435 cycle bays.

The apartments include striking features including dramatic roofscapes, podium level landscaped courtyards, floor to ceiling windows, balconies and bright and airy open living spaces. The majority of upper level apartments and penthouses benefit from panoramic views over the Royal Docks and London’s iconic skyline.

EOS INVOLVEMENT

EOS Facades provided 16,500m2 of SFS infill - a mixture of infill to concrete frame and infill to curved hot rolled structure.

With many of the apartments of this project sold prior to the build’s completion, there was considerable pressure from the client to achieve the finished project as soon as possible, in order to speed up the return of their investment.

The design and supply programme was very strict and as such, speed of construction was paramount. EOS Facades had to ensure that the design of the build and the supply programme was as streamlined as possible, whilst still accommodating any changes required.

POSITIVE OUTCOMES

This main challenge on this high profile development was the tight programme. EOS Facades were able to provide the levels of resource needed from both the design and factory teams in order to meet these demands. Once on site, the installation process was further streamlined by colour coding and labelling all SFS materials by floor and elevation - reducing costly errors for ease of distribution.
