Feature Staircase for Commercial London Offices

Feature Staircase for Commercial London Offices

In the heart of London, project Burlington was recently completed by CANAL Architectural for a main entrance of commercial offices. The specification was to replace the existing, dated staircase and balustrade with a brand new, contemporary feature staircase to transform the aesthetics of the building entrance and reflect the company’s high-end image.

CANAL started the fabrication of the straight staircase at their manufacturing facility in Nottingham, where the main central structure and tread trays were formed from mirror polished stainless steel. Alongside the main structure, the handrail was also fabricated out of mirror polished stainless steel. Both handrails and the main structure was then transported to site and installed.

The 21.5mm balustrade on the staircase and first floor was manufactured from low iron glass giving a gin-clear appearance, which was laminated to achieve its thickness to meet the building regulations and loadings for the commercial property. On site the glass was installed onto the main structure and the handrail installed onto the glass balustrade using stainless steel side fixings. The handrail was then topped in a dark oak. To complete this stunning stair, the fabricated box treads were covered in a light coloured stone, which matched the ground floor and feature wall, while the complete metal staircase structure was seamlessly polished showing no visible joints.
