“Radiwarm radiators save our tenants at least £260 a year in heating costs and have improved our SAP rating. We are so impressed that 300 have been specified for a 40 property heating upgrade and we’re considering replacing our entire gas stock with Radiwarm radiators.”
Jim Bett, Clerk of Works for Fife Housing Association, discovered Radiwarm water filled electric radiators when researching an alternative to the existing storage heaters in 40 properties requiring a routine upgrade in Kennoway, Fife. Impressed by the benefits of no maintenance and the absence of risk or lawful entry requirements posed by gas central heating, Jim was staggered by the impact Radiwarm made to the Association’s SAP rating.
“The storage heaters were giving below 50 on our SAP rating and we’d had
complaints from tenants who found their restrictive heat output inconvenient and
expensive,” Jim explains. “Since installing Radiwarm radiators we’ve gone from a
rating of below 50 with the storage heaters to 64 – the same as a condensing boiler -
with the Heat Electric radiators.“
Fife Housing Association installed a pilot house with five Heat Electric radiators.
Over an eight month period the tenant reported a “healthier” heat and controllability
was reported as a huge benefit. By fitting an energy monitor before installation, Fife
monitored the tenant’s energy spend and saw a saving of over £5 a week on heating
costs.
Jim continued “A saving of anywhere up to £15 a week would be possible if energy
was supplied through a supplier which provides an Economy 10 tariff. We are now
encouraging all our tenants to switch suppliers to receive maximum benefit from their
new Radiwarm systems.”
Radiwarm radiators are 100% efficient – all the electricity consumed gets turned into
useful heat – they operate individually and heat up in minutes. Each unit looks just
like a conventional, double panelled radiator but hides an internal mini boiler and
pump which transforms each one into a self-contained central heating system.
Coming with a choice of controls, a built-in air thermostat monitors the room and
once the desired temperature has been reached, the radiator stops drawing
electricity, avoiding cold spots and overheating. When not in use for prolonged
periods, each unit can be switched off without causing any damage to the system.
The radiators can improve a building’s SAP rating because of their exceptional
controllability which provides time and temperature control for individual units and for
separate designated heating zones and because they can run on the low-cost
economy 10 tariff.
“Our SAP rating is crucial in our role as a responsible housing provider and we were
delighted to see our rating soar as a result of the controllability of the radiators,” Jim
continued. “With ease of installation, cost savings on maintenance and the lack of
risk in not working with gas systems, the Radiwarm radiators provide the smartest,
most future proof heating system I have ever come across.
“With this in mind we are now proposing a report to the board to replace all our gas
central heating systems in 2,500 properties with Radiwarm radiators because for
Housing Associations who have to consider tenant welfare, energy consumption,
maintenance and cost, there really is no better heating provider on the market.”
