First Prize For 48th Scouts!

First Prize For 48th Scouts!

Brewers Peterborough were thrilled to be able to support the 48th scouts in the local Werrington Scout & Guide Festival last month, which has been running for over 50 years, raising money for Werrington Scout & Guides.

The Werrington Scout & Guide Festival started with a procession through the village, finishing at Werrington Primary School where the local community could enjoy live music, entertainment and fairground rides.

The procession parade is made up of local groups supporting and scouting and guide entries, these are in turn judged, and the highest score is awarded a 1st and 2nd place. Thanks to some clever designs and a lot of hard work, the 48th Scouts won first prize!

With no theme for the parade, all entries have to get creative and come up with a theme for their float or walking float. After coming second the year before with a run of 4 straight first places, the 48th Scouts knew they needed to up their game!

The Scouts had constructed go karts as part of a previous project and decided to repurpose them for the procession. The vehicles were inspired by all 5 Thunderbird crafts and it took two weeks to transform the go karts. Leaders also dedicated their spare time to construct a large scale version of the Thunderbird 5 craft at a local farm.

Brewers Branch Manager, Adam Smith, was delighted to donate Zinsser Allcoat, Polyvine Decorator’s Varnish and Glitter Paint Maker to decorate the incredible vehicles the 48th Scouts had created.

“Knowing we would need specific paint and as Brewers helped us out last year with some free paint, I contacted the local branch manager, Adam, who he said they would be happy to help out and to come in for a chat. We were blown away with their generosity and enthusiasm they had for our project and helped out with all the paint free of charge. We were lucky enough to grab first prize and score 10 across all categories! I would personally like to say thanks to Brewers for their generosity, my Leaders for giving up their spare time and Scouts with their enthusiasm and hard work and effort to create our vision.” Patch Tate, Scout Leader.
