FP McCann’s headwalls in large distribution development

FP McCann’s headwalls in large distribution development

Derbyshire based construction company, GF Tomlinson & Sons, are utilising FP McCann's small, medium and large precast concrete headwalls as work starts on a new £6m depot facility in Foston, Derby.

GF Tomlinson is building the 190,000 sq ft centre for haulage business ATL Warehousing and Distribution on their 25-acre site in Foston. The company is investing in the site after experiencing a number of years of organic growth. The new building will provide storage for 22,000 pallets of goods.

Part of the contract in building the new distribution hub involves draining excess storm water from the site and directing the outfall into the natural watercourse surrounding the development. To incorporate the SuDS type drainage into the scheme, a 120 metres swale to the rear of the building has been constructed.

Along the length of the swale, GF Tomlinson has installed 7 FP McCann precast concrete headwalls ranging from three small headwalls accommodating a 150mm diameter pipe outlet, to two of the large standard headwalls with a 825mm diameter pipe outlet. The outlet points to the large headwalls are all fitted with galvanised safety grating.

The headwalls were placed in-situ without the need for extensive excavation of the swale embankment. No shuttering or formwork was required.

FP McCann is also supplying standard spigot and socket precast concrete pipes and manhole chamber rings to the Foston contract.
