Frigg KV apartment development in Skellefteå, north-east Sweden, is centrally located in the town and features both residential units and commercial spaces arranged around a lush green courtyard that provides plenty of space for relaxation and social activities. Frigg development consists of eight buildings housing 198 rental apartments ranging in size
from compact 27-square-meter, one-bedroom apartments to 91-square-meter, four-bedroom apartments.
Constructed entirely in wood, the buildings feature facades clad in vertical, ochre-colored Swisspearl panels. The warm yellow and light gray facades are inspired by the many laster and brick buildings in the area. Vertical aluminum fins integrated into the facade design create a dynamic interplay of textures and shadows on the exterior, while staggered joints ensure the facade appears as a unified surface.
The slender, gold-toned aluminum profiles cast dynamic shadows and reflections, allowing the facades to shift character depending on the play of light and the observer’s perspective. The overall effect is a golden ensemble of buildings, aptly reflecting Skellefteå’s identity as the “golden city.”
