The Great Western Hospital is a modern district general hospital providing emergency care, surgery, diagnostics, paediatrics, maternity, outpatient and day care services. Opened in 2002, the hospital buildings are designed to offer a first class environment for patients, visitors and staff.
The Swindon and Marlborough NHS Trust’s private sector partner, Carillion Health, maintains the hospital buildings. It is responsible for providing a safe, clean environment as well as managing energy consumption. As part of that, upgrading washroom hand drying facilities was a priority. Previously, paper towels had been used, but this had proved a costly and unsustainable solution. There was concern over hygiene risks, cost-efficiency and the amount of waste being sent to landfill.
As the only hand dryer certified by NSF International, the Dyson Airblade™ was the obvious first choice for hygiene. It also expects a reduction in waste sent to landfill of 1 tonne per year and a reduction in carbon emissions of 1.3 tonnes per year.
