Greenfaulds High School Cumbernauld

Greenfaulds High School Cumbernauld

This £32 million investment was completed in 2016 by Morrison Construction to a design by architects, Archial Norr, and engineering consultants RYBKA.

The three-storey structure was located within the grounds of the existing school to provide a purpose-built learning facility for 1350 pupils. A key feature of the design is the maximum use of natural light to enhance the sense of space and well-being.

A major focus of the design was to achieve an energy efficient, low carbon campus enabling a BREEAM “very good” award.

An integral part of the mechanical services to the building, is a natural ventilation system, using double-glazed louvres to complement the natural lighting effect, as well as a sustainable approach to maintaining a comfortable environment.

A total of 38 Fieger FLW 28 SmoTec units were installed to meet the building requirements including a dual-function emergency smoke venting capability.

The Fieger louvre vents were supplied with double-glazed blades using toughened glass outside and laminated inside to comply with The Scottish Building Regulations.

The vents were manufactured with a polyester powder finish to the framework: RAL 9004 Signal Black.

To provide the dual-purpose smoke venting function, our CE marked SmoTec models were installed; all of which are tested and certified in accordance with EN 12101-2.

Each unit was supplied complete with D+H 24-volt DC actuators, for simple, reliable operation and connection to the fire protection control system. These actuators also feature an anti-trapping function as standard.

The vents were manufactured complete with 28mm glazing adapters to facilitate installation into the curtain walling.

A key characteristic of the Fieger SmoTec vent is the energy efficient design, achieved by the class-leading low air leakage rate, together with low U-values.
