Touch-to-open latch system brings true innovation to door design
The prestigious RIBA awards have recognised Häfele’s Smart Entrance touch-to-open solution as one of 2019’s Most Innovative Product finalists. The awards, internationally recognised as a mark of excellence, have rewarded outstanding work for 180 years.
Intended for high-end residential use, Smart Entrance applies smartphone touch-screen technology to a set of highly designed handles. Smart Entrance blends aesthetics and function in a modern, minimalist style to effectively change the way people enter a room. The innovative design gives the product the ability to complement many design concepts.
Simply touching the Smart Entrance handle activates the electronic mortice lock to retract the bolt, allowing the door to open. On closing the door, the bolt shoots into the magnetic strike fitted in the frame.
Smart Entrance opens up a huge number of architectural concepts through sleek and modern design. A variety of seven handles are available, characterised by their clear geometric shapes, giving doors a striking new look and helping to drive aesthetic decisions that complement door veneers and room finishes. The handles have a satin nickel finish, with a satin stainless-steel fore-end on the lockcase. The system can be a surface-mounted handle, flush for Timber doors and an option for glass doors.
Mike Kelly, Head of Project and AI Sales at Häfele comments: “At Häfele, innovation is in our DNA. Opening and closing doors are something we all do every day without too much thought. For us, innovation means re-imagining the everyday products to deliver benefits in terms of look, feel and usability.
“The fact that Smart Entrance eliminates the need to pull and turn handles means that the solution can play a key role in situations where residents don’t necessarily have the mobility or dexterity to turn levers and pull handles.
“We are delighted that Smart Entrance was recognised as one of RIBA’s 2019 Most Innovative Product finalists. Such recognition drives us to continue to innovate.”
