Waterproofing and drainage solutions from market leaders Alumasc, have been specified for the state-of-the-art Harris Academy in South Norwood, London.
The Academy is an ultra-modern facility for boys and girls aged 11-19, offering the most up-to-date technology and resources. Sponsored by Carpetright Founder, Lord Harris of Peckham, the Harris Academy was designed by renowned architects John McAslan and Partners, who were keen to work with Alumasc due to their impressive track record and proven product performance. Alumascs Technical Support Team worked in close partnership with main contractor Wates Construction, to make Harris Academy the latest addition to Alumascs portfolio of successful high-profile academy projects.
The environmental credentials of Alumascs high-performance Derbigum Waterproofing Membrane were a major consideration in its specification for the new Academy building, as the design team had been set a late challenge by Croydon Council, who requested a 10% reduction in carbon emissions throughout the construction process.
M&J Flat Roofing of Bedford installed 4,000m2 of Derbigum Mineral Grey which offers outstanding flexibility and ease of application. Derbigum Mineral is a BBA-approved 4mm membrane, with a protective mineral finish available in 5 surface options. It is manufactured under the ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management Standard, meeting the Councils sustainability requirements. In addition, the system is fire rated F.AA to BS476 Pt3 (EN1187 Pt4), the highest available rating, which allows unrestricted use under the Building Regulations.
Harmer AV400 roof outlets, from Alumasc, were also specified, providing a robust drainage solution that will perform for the lifetime of the Academy. The AV range provides a comprehensive choice of high-performance outlets, suitable for all regular flat-roofing applications with continuous membrane systems. Harmer AV roof outlets are available with spigot or screw connections for vertical, horizontal or 45º discharge.
