Client: Health and Safety Executive Headquarters, Bootle, Merseyside
Type of works: Over 2,500m2 of tensioned roller blinds provided shading to rectangular and shaped atria-glazing.

Astralux were presented with the plans for the new HSE Headquarters in Liverpool 2 years before work commenced on site. The architect and contractor had a particular issue in providing effective heat and glare-control to large expanses of roof atria covering the length and breadth of the modern, open-plan building. In addition, any proposed solution would need to be installed 13m above ground level and therefore a durable and low-maintenance solution was imperative.

A total of 140 Astralux 5000 tensioned roller blind systems were installed with group operation from wireless-radio switches. The fabric specified was Carona Screen material to provide effective glare and heat control.

Experienced Astralux installation teams used a combination of purpose-built scaffolding, scissor lifts and cherry pickers to provide safe access to all areas, including the circular drum building.

The installation has proven to be an effective and robust solution to heat and glare control and additional blinds have subsequently been installed to other areas of the site.
