Hexham Hospital, Northumberland

Client: Bovis Lend Lease Holdings
Architect: Jonathan Bailey Associates
Project value: £24 million
Type of works: supply and installation of EOS façade stud-and-track system.

Phase 3 of Hexham hospital is the one of a number of scale healthcare projects supported by the EOS team. The important project involves construction of a 7,800 square metre extension of the existing hospital. The new extension will provide a range of critical additional facilities including;

  • A primary care centre to service two local general practices
  • A 10 bed emergency care centre
  • A chronic disease centre
  • An education centre
  • A new 30 bed hospital ward at first floor level, taking Hexham Hospital’s in-patient capacity to 138 beds

    The EOS façade stud-and-track system enables rapid turnaround of onsite framing projects. The versatility of the EOS facade system enabled the hospital facade to be finished to a high quality, and as specified by the architect, Jonathan Bailey Associates, while dramatically reducing completion time, saving the developer resources and money. This EOS facade stud-and-track system was applied to a primary framework to form the substructure for this complicated scheme, including a number of curved facades.

    In order to speed up the process of installation, EOS also provided double studs that were pre-assembled for use around door and windows to form the jambs. The EOS facade stud-and-track were supplied in specified lengths to site as planned with EOS's installer. The sections arrived on site in the pre-designed sequence agreed with the client to allow immediate installation.

    Drawings were supplied by the EOS in-house design office. These drawings indicated all of the component parts and construction centres that were required, along with window positions, to reflect the client’s design. The process and solutions that were offered by the EOS team saved significant time on site and gave the client assurance throughout the design, manufacture, delivery and installation programme delivery.

    All sections and profiles are manufactured from steel HD Z39 Galv Coil to BS EN 10140 S390N/mm2 Proof Steel,G275gsm - Normal as Coated Chemical Passivation.
