In order to equal level four of the Code for Sustainable Homes for their new build development in Dursley, house builder Bloor Homes required solar technology. Following An EcoMaster specification provided by Redland, Bloor Homes chose Redlands roof integrated Solar PV tiles alongside Double Roman interlocking concrete tiles and Duo Plain concrete plain tiles installed by roofing contractor Brown Roofing and their solar division BR Solar.
The Bloor Homes Littlecombe housing development in is a mixture of social and privately owned homes and the installation of 219 Solar PV Tiles provides 18.1kWp of electricity. Redland provided BR Solar with training on how to install its Solar PV Tiles as well as technical support throughout the project. Once on site the Solar PV Tiles took BR Solar just 2-4 days per house to install.
A further benefit when using only Redland products as specified by its EcoMaster service, in this case including tiles, Solar PV tiles and dry fix systems, is that completed roofs come with Redland's 15 year Roof System Guarantee of weather tightness, as well as a 25 year guarantee on the solar PV output from the PV tile manufacturer.
Rob Brown, Director, of Brown Roofing Ltd, says: Redland products were chosen for their quality and the almost seamless integration possible between Solar PV Tiles and traditional roof tiles. This means the aesthetic appearance of the finished homes is superior to the majority of roofs with PV systems being installed today.
Edward Meredith, Senior Surveyor, at Bloor Homes, said: We chose to use Redland Solar PV Tiles as part of a whole Redland roof system because not only were they fully integrated, providing a great visual appearance, but also that Redlands guarantee gives us peace of mind for the next 25 years
