Type of works: Design, supply and installation of a fully-glazed lift for disabled access and goods.

Top UK lift company Husbands, based in Birmingham, landed a prestigious contract to supply passenger and goods lifts to HSBC’s flagship branch in Westminster, London.

The contract was to provide a stylish fully-glazed lift to transport disabled people between floors and to supply a goods lift capable of carrying up to 500kg. Both lifts were designed and installed by Husbands; the head office of the company is based at Shelah Road, Halesowen.

Keith Holmes, owner and Managing Director of Husbands, says the design element of the lift at the HSBC bank in Victoria Street was as important as its efficient working. He comments:

"The disabled lift is positioned in a very prominent part of the bank, and as such, had to enhance the stylish and modern aspect of the interior. We had to use materials, which are not only strong and practical but also have an aesthetic appeal. We achieved this by glazing the lifts and cladding them in specially manufactured stainless-steel satin to ensure they are 100% eye-catching."

According to Mr Holmes, Husbands has supplied both passenger and goods lifts for all the major banks including Nat West, Lloyds and Barclays, and has worked previously with HSBC. The company also secured a contract to supply a service lift for the famous National Archives office in Edinburgh.
