Hush Acoustics help silence creaky floors and prevent impact noise

Hush-Panel 28 from Hush Acoustics provides a proven way for house builders and developers to prevent creaky floors and impact noise from internal and separating floors in single dwellings and multi-occupancy properties, including apartment blocks.

Comprising an 18mm High Density P5 Moisture Resistant tongued and grooved chipboard factory-bonded to a 10mm Hushfelt™ resilient layer, Hush-Panel 28 has been designed by acoustics specialists as a versatile impact reducing floor panel that can be used either as a structural or overlay board.

It is installed easily and quickly, when used in combination with perimeter sound isolating products such as Hush Seal 20 or Hush RD Flanking Strip ensuring, Hush-Panel 28 is proven to prevent what many of the most common noise complaints by UK house buyers and tenants.

The popularity of hard floorcoverings, such as wooden and laminate floors, and lightweight construction methods for new build homes has exacerbated separating floor noise issues in recent years, which is why the need for Hush-Panel 28 has never been greater.

Hush-Panel 28 is tested to exceed the requirements of Building Regulations Part E (England and Wales), Section 5 (Scotland) and Part G (Northern Ireland), as well as Robust Details FFT5 compliant for floor structures (EFC-1, EFC-2 and EFS-1).

It is laid as a floating floor, with panels laid felt face down over the structure and all tongue and groove joints glued using Hush Bond adhesive.

In addition to reducing sound transmission, when used as an overlay board, the Hushfelt™ resilient layer also takes care of minor undulations of the floor surface to resolve any construction inconsistencies and deliver an all-round superior end result. A Peel Clean version is now also available to allow house builders to benefit further by providing spotless handovers.

Rob Crampton, MD of Hush Acoustics says: “Noise from separating floors as a result of footsteps, items being dropped onto the floor or chairs being moved, is not something any new home buyer will want to hear, but it is clearly an incredibly common issue given how many calls and emails we receive. The good thing is that we can address these issues at the design stage or in retrofit with Hush-Panel 28, a product capable of adding a level of quality that buyers of high end homes in particular would expect – not necessarily exceeding expectations but simply meeting them in the first place.”

Hush-Panel 28 can be laid over concrete, existing timber floors or directly over joists up to 450mm centres (in conjunction with Hush 10 joist strips). Most floor finishes can be installed over Hush Panel 28, including timber, carpet and ceramic tiling (in conjunction with Permalayer or other suitable anti-cracking solutions).

Manufactured in the UK, the product is part of a wide range of acoustic systems and sound insulation products by Hush Acoustics which enable housebuilders to address all the most common sound transmission issues, as well as more complex acoustic problems.
