Hush Acoustics invests to increase support for Scottish construction market

Leading acoustic products and systems manufacturer Hush Acoustics has boosted its service to Scotland’s building industry by opening a dedicated warehouse to serve its customers north of the border, improving product availability and shortening lead times.

The company, which was originally founded in Scotland in 1984 before relocating to the north of England 13 years later, retains a loyal Scottish customer base. This is largely due to its technical knowledge and experience of ensuring that floor and wall constructions meet the requirements set out in Section 5.0 (Noise) of the Scottish building standards technical handbook.

Thanks to its new warehouse at Hamilton International Technology Park, Glasgow, Hush Acoustics has ‘stocks on the ground’, ready for dispatch in its shortest ever lead times. It means that many of the most widely used products, including the market-leading Hush Panel 28 acoustic panel, the thinner alternative Hush Panel 17 and Hush Acoustic Battens, all of which enable compliance with Section 5.0 in both domestic and commercial building projects, are stocked locally.

Amongst the products stocked by Hush in Scotland is the Hush Felt 25 acoustic joist strip. This was the first product ever developed by Hush Acoustics, largely designed to help Scottish builders and developers achieve higher levels of impact sound reduction, and it remains a popular choice in Scotland, particularly for refurbishment and conversion projects.

Another Hush Acoustics product that is widely used in Scotland is Hush Fill 60 heavy pugging, a modern version of ash deafening. This joist infill product is ideal for use in the refurbishment of older buildings featuring timber joisted floors, especially the traditionally-built tenements of Edinburgh and Glasgow. With a density of 80kg per sq. m at the 60mm regulation depth, this is a highly effective insulator against airborne sound.

In addition, many of Hush Acoustics’ products designed to reduce sound transmission in timber frame new build construction are also stocked in Scotland, reflecting the popularity of this build method compared to other parts of the UK. These include its high mass acoustic panels, such as Hush Panel 37, a 37mm moisture-resistant chipboard with integrated resilient layer, and the high density cement particleboard, Hush Cem Panel 33.

Many of these products feature in Hush Acoustics’ range of fully tested acoustic wall and floor/ceiling systems, which are also compatible with Robust Details projects. This extensive range is complemented by market-leading technical knowledge available within the Hush team, offering support and advice relating to acoustic design, specification, installation and testing.

Robert Crampton, Managing Director of Hush Acoustics, said: “Scotland has always led the way when it comes to the acoustic building standards, and our original product range was very much conceived to help architects and developers meet the higher standards that do not apply in England, Wales or Northern Ireland. We continue to work with a large customer base in Scotland and, by expanding our warehousing to include a facility near Glasgow, we are better placed than ever to serve them with an acoustic product range that they can depend on.”
Architects and contractors can also take advantage of a CPD presentation prepared by Hush Acoustics which specifically deals with meeting Section 5.0 of the Scottish Technical Standards Handbook. To arrange a CPD presentation, simply contact the Hush team.
