When drainage performance is critical, channel geometry can make all the difference. ULMA's polymer concrete drainage channels with a genuine 2.5% built-in slope increase flow velocity, improve hydraulic efficiency and reduce the number of outlets required, offering an effective solution for heavy-duty infrastructure and industrial applications.
Increase hydraulic performance with 2.5% built-in sloped drainage channels
Designing surface water drainage for industrial facilities and transport infrastructure often involves balancing hydraulic performance, construction costs and long-term maintenance requirements. In locations where site gradients are limited or difficult to achieve, drainage systems with an integrated slope can provide a practical alternative.
ULMA's F150K and F250K polymer concrete drainage channels incorporate a genuine 2.5% built-in slope along the channel run, increasing water velocity and improving hydraulic capacity without increasing the channel width. The accelerated flow allows the system to convey higher volumes of surface water, enabling designers to achieve the required hydraulic performance with smaller channel sections in many applications.
Independent hydraulic studies have shown that a 20-metre run of ULMA's 2.5% sloped channel can drain flows of up to 100 l/s, demonstrating how increased flow velocity can significantly enhance drainage capacity.
The hydraulic efficiency also simplifies system design. Up to 40 linear metres, installed as two 20-metre sections, can be connected to a single outlet, reducing the number of discharge points, underground pipework and associated civil works. Fewer outlets translate into faster installation, lower construction costs and a more streamlined drainage layout.
Higher flow velocity provides an additional operational benefit by creating a self-cleansing effect. During rainfall, water is able to carry fine sediments and debris through the channel more effectively, reducing sediment build-up and helping maintain the full hydraulic section over time. This contributes to lower maintenance requirements and improved long-term system performance.
The F150K and F250K systems are manufactured in polymer concrete and designed for demanding environments requiring high mechanical resistance and durability. Available with galvanised steel or ductile iron edge rails, a choice of galvanised steel or ductile iron gratings, and load classes up to F900, the systems are suitable for applications including industrial facilities, logistics centres, airports, ports, service stations, heavy vehicle parking areas and public highways.
