Innovative rainscreen system for Matalan HQ

Booth Muirie’s innovative BML Systems have been specified on Matalan’s striking new headquarters’ building at Knowsley Industrial Park near Liverpool.

The rainscreen system, featuring aluminium composite material (ACM), provides flat, grey cladding to the glass-fronted building’s feature fins, and a striking flash of red for the central lift shaft, which also exposes colour to the interior of the building.

BML60 was installed to 700m2 of walls in two colours; ‘black grey’ for the feature fins and ‘traffic red’ for the lift shaft walls. BML systems offer design freedom through a choice of panels, details and fixing assemblies, whilst utilising world-leading composite materials that are inherently flat, rigid and uniform in colour.

Matalan’s new head office and warehousing facility has been built to secure the future growth of the business as a leading multi-channel retailer.

It has been designed by Fletcher Rae Architects to a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating, incorporating sustainable technologies for power, heating and cooling, with the potential for future onsite energy generation. The £19 million development has been built on a 15-acre site, creating 400 new jobs in addition to 1200 head office staff.
