Intelligent Membranes were asked to install Passive Purple- Liquid vapour control in the grounds of Dudley College. In keeping with the college’s sustainability commitments, the new facility is a deep retrofit of an original 1950s building situated on the northern side of the college’s Broadway campus.
BACKGROUND
Before the initial preparation work with Passive Purple Brush, any damaged bricks and mortar holes had to be repaired. Also, any unwanted windows that didn’t fit in with the new design were blocked up. Thankfully this building was kind to us and didn’t give us to much fuss. Passive Purple Brush was used around any service penetrations and gaps around the existing windows.
Using Passive Purple to ensure all external walls are air and smoke tight before fitting external wall insulation is a critical step in modern construction practices. This approach not only enhances the building's energy efficiency and indoor air quality but also ensures compliance with stringent fire safety standards, providing a robust and reliable building envelope.
RESULTS
A very modest air test score of 0.91 ach (air changes per hour) was achieved on this external upgrade. This score is amazing, considering we had nothing to do with windows or the finished
external facade.
AIR TESTING
Air testing- also known air testing, air permeability testing, air leakage testing, and air pressure testing- measures the amount of air escaping through a buildings envelope.
CLIENT TESTIMONIAL
"We are very excited about the addition to our animal management and animal science provision. The new facility will bring together all our specialist facilities under one roof. It is going to be a superb asset to the college."
