SSQ Ultra Del Carmen® Blue-black roofing slate was specified for a luxury mansion set in the hills outside Istanbul overlooking the Bosphorus, the narrow strait that separates Europe and Asia.

The mansion’s owner wanted a natural material that would be in harmony with the property’s setting. After seeing SSQ Ultra Del Carmen® Blue-black roofing slate on another mansion, this was the preferred choice of slate roofing.

With a no-expense spared approach to getting the best in materials and craftsmanship, the owner hired Joelle Renard, a UK-based slate-roofing consultant, to go to Istanbul and carry out the work.

The roofscape, with its close-mitred hips and sweeping valleys, took Joelle, a highly skilled roofer, and a team of three slaters six weeks to complete.

Hooks were used to fix the slates; the method’s flexibility being ideal for the roof’s complexity and relatively low angle of pitch (17.5º).

The result is an outstanding example of what an experienced roofing team can achieve given a great design and good quality roofing slates.
