J Sainsbury's, Murrayfield

Sainsbury's Murrayfield is a superstore in the heart of Edinburgh that serves a large number of customers, so required a suitable washroom solution to meet demands.

The project
J Sainsbury's, founded in 1869 by John James Sainsbury, is the second-largest chain of supermarkets in the UK, with more than 600 supermarkets and 700 smaller convenience stores. Sainsbury's Murrayfield is a new superstore located in the heart of Edinburgh, serving a large number of customers on a daily basis.

The challenge
With a requirement to ensure the corporate identity throughout all Sainsbury's branches, the new washrooms needed to follow suit. In addition to this, a busy superstore catering for large numbers of customers and staff puts a heavy strain on the facilities. This calls for washroom facilities that have the strength to cope with these high demands.

The solution
System M toilet cubicles were specified to meet the high demands of a busy supermarket such as this one. System M is a unique, robust toilet cubicle solution with a patented and simple-to-operate, rapid-release outward opening door system. This system provides optimal emergency access, within an industry-leading 30 seconds.

System M has been designed to comply with the Document M regulation, for access to and use of buildings, whilst maintaining attractive aesthetics. System M toilet cubicles have a proven track record of being able to cope with the demands of constantly used washrooms.

This optimal emergency access cubicle is suitable for all high traffic environments, in particular retail outlets - so this was a perfect choice for J Sainsbury's Murrayfield.

Part of their V2 range of toilet cubicles, System M features an innovative pivoting pilaster design with a discreet release facility operated without the use of tools or removable parts, allowing the normally inward opening doors to be opened outwards in the event of an emergency. Resetting is simple with no replacement parts and no visual compromise to this stylish design.

The toilet cubicles were specified in Solid Grace Laminate (SGL) which adds to the strength of the product. Impact, scratch and heat resistant, SGL is the ideal material choice for such a busy commercial washroom area.

J Sainsbury's Murrayfield also specified their pre-plumbed panelling system, Vepps, which not only made for simple and quick installation but also makes ongoing maintenance for the Facilities Team much simpler moving forwards.
