Kalzip has been awarded BRE Global Certification

Kalzip Ltd is the first manufacturer in the UK to receive a full built up system Certificate of Approval: Environmental Profiles for its Roof Cladding Systems.

The Certificated BRE Global Environmental Profiles provide Kalzip Ltd with independent and substantiated proof to demonstrate the environmental performance of its Standing Seam Roof built-up system’s to architects, clients and designers alike to assist in fulfilling their environmental specification requirements.

Both ‘cradle to gate’ (an assessment of a partial product life cycle from manufacture to the factory gate) and ‘cradle to grave’ (the full Life Cycle Assessment from manufacture to disposal) Environmental Profiles have been generated for the Kalzip Aluminium Roofing and Cladding Systems products. These profiles contain characterised and normalised data as well as an Ecopoint score for each product system; substantiating Kalzip’s Standing Seam Roof built-up system’s with an A+ or A rating within the BRE’s Green Guide to Specification.

Faith Cottrell Environmental Manager & Technical Information Administrator at Kalzip states: “The UK construction industry faces an unprecedented challenge to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated from the built environment. Green claims are easy to make by manufacturers, but much harder to substantiate. BRE Global’s independent assessment and certification not only ensures that green claims are based on fact, but also that products and services meet performance standards appropriate for their intended use. Kalzip’s BRE Global Certification provides ongoing independent, third party assessment and certification of our materials and products for their environmental performance. The Environmental Profiles of the Kalzip system are available on the free online Green Book Live database, designed to help specifiers and end users identify products and services that can help to reduce their impact on the environment. This facility makes it possible to obtain scientifically verified information about various products’ environmental impacts and to compare the products.

“Most of the carbon dioxide generated by a building is a result of the energy consumed during its occupation. Kalzip’s cladding systems produce thermally efficient building envelopes, combined with a twin-skin built-up system that successfully achieves high levels of thermal insulation and air-tightness. By providing designers and decision-makers such as architects with technical guidance on our products, we enable them to capitalise on the carbon dioxide savings that Kalzip can offer.”
