Client: Kildare Outlet Village
Combined contract value: £82,500
Architect: Lyons+Sleeman+Hoare
Type of works: design and manufacture of eight bespoke cupolas and clock towers including CAD design, manufacture and shipping.
The brief was to design and manufacture eight bespoke cupolas for a retail outlet village in Kildare, Ireland.
One side of each cupola design was hand-crafted in ash timber from which a mould was taken. Four GRP sides were then manufactured and joined together to make the finished component with a realistic wood-grain effect surface.
Likewise, one side of each roof was first hand-beaten in lead over a timber pattern, and then a mould taken to give the finished product an authentic lead-effect finish.
The cupola design chosen for the main entrance of the shopping village was fitted with four of Good Directions' Black Classic-style 760mm clocks controlled by a Good Directions Resynchroniser to ensure correct time restart after power failures. The unit is supplied pre-programmed with the BST/GMT time changes for 20 years from date of purchase.
