Contour has recently undertaken the design, manufacture and installation of a series of vibrant aluminium column casings, at the historic Kirkgate Market in Leeds.

The installation formed part of a major £12.3m refurbishment of the Leeds market, commissioned by Leeds City Council. A key part of the Kirkgate Market transformation was the use of brightly coloured walls and fixtures in the ‘1976 Hall’, including the 4.5m high column casings encircling floor to roof I beams and which would be positioned above four catering units in the hall.

The lead project contractors turned to Contour for a solution. As designers, manufacturers and importantly, installers of column casings, the company developed a bespoke system of attaching the casings to the beams, but which did not entail drilling or affecting the structural integrity of the beams.
