Lewisham School of Muralism Students Create a Mural for Pymmes Park

As a proud supporter of the Lewisham School of Muralism, Brewers Decorator Centres were pleased to help former student, Liv Wright, with a new community mural in Pymmes Park, Enfield.

To enable the project to come to life, Liv started a funding platform and reached out to Brewers to see if they could help. Brewers Enfield were delighted to support the community initiative and offered a mix of discounted and free of charge masonry paint to enable the project to move forward.

Liv wanted the mural to be a real community piece, so she held a series of workshops for locals, which made the mural’s design a true collaborative piece. Through these workshops it was decided the mural should reflect a number of different themes, based on the community and the history of the building itself.

The front of the building displays a mural which has a geometric design inspired by camouflaged warships, as the building started life as a civilian defence centre in WW2. The mural on the back of the building has much more of an organic theme, reflecting the environment the building is in. The colours used are based on the Mandarin Duck which hold residency in the park, and the subject consists of a 200-year-old cedar tree which was controversially cut down in the 90s to make way for the North Circular. The mural also features silhouettes of the volunteers who helped paint the building and locals who enjoy the park – including a pooch who would come and check on the mural’s progress daily!

The mural took two weeks to complete, totalling twelve days of painting. Many volunteers came together to create the piece, including two other Lewisham School of Muralism students, Amy Dolan and Alistair Leyes. The terrific trio of artists have come together to create art in the local community and hope to work on more projects in the future!
