Lighted handrails & balustrades for shopping centre

Q-railing has provided balustrades from its Q-line series together with Q-lights Linear Line LED handrail lighting for the White Rose Shopping Centre in Leeds. As part of a recent renovation programme a new access ramp was added and project architects the Harris Partnership saw the opportunity to provide additional lighting, integrated into the ramp’s safety barrier.

The architect identified Q-line balustrades as a good fit for the project. Their high-grade stainless steel finish and clean rounded design provided the required contemporary look. Q-line also recommended itself because it could be combined easily with lighted handrails. The design created by the Harris Partnership specified a cap rail with Q-lights Linear Light LED strips integrated.

Installation of the preferred solution was carried out by The Wilde Group, using a straightforward process. Having installed the 48.3 mm Q-line posts, with MOD 22 glass clamps to hold the 10 mm thick glass infills, handrail brackets and handrails could then be added.

The safety provided by the well-lit access ramp has become ever more important. Already a busy shopping centre with 65,000 of retail square metres over 2 storeys, the site has subsequently been upgraded by Landsec. An 11-screen cinema and several restaurants have increased pedestrian traffic considerably and raised the profile of the site. The ultra-safe and good-looking Q-line balustrades, with their integrated LED lighting, were the perfect choice for a heavy-use public space.
