Long Live the King

Long Live the King

May 2023 saw street party food and stalls set up in many of our towns and cities, with marketplaces filled with street food vendors, coffee vans and music to celebrate the coronation of Charles III and his wife, Camilla, as king and queen of the United Kingdom. Charles acceded to the throne on 8 September 2022, upon the death of his mother, Elizabeth II.

King Charles’s coronation was marked with thousands of street parties across the country. Many decorated the streets and parks with bunting and flags. Celebrations took place all over the country to mark the first coronation of a UK monarch in seven decades, representing a moment in history!

Coronation party organisers encouraged and enhanced their community spirit, providing entertainment and refreshments for both locals and visitors to the area. Staging an outdoor event for the coronation also proved to be beneficial commercially for many local authorities. Attracting more people to make use of public space, not only boosts the commercial viability of the town centres, but it also helps to create a sense of community and well-being.

Some of the larger events and attractions utilised a power source, and in many cases traditional power sources such as petrol generators were used, which can be unsafe, unsightly and noisy in open areas where people are relaxing, dancing and socialising.

An alternative approach is available from Pop Up Power Supplies®, who have a range of retractable service units that provide electricity for public spaces such as urban centres, historic sites, market places, town squares and parks – all of which were perfect settings for the coronation.

There are three main units in the range – pop up units, power bollards and in-ground – all of which can provide outdoor power in a wide variety of applications. Each unit is available with a range of configurations, and bespoke in-ground power units or pop up units can be specified with recessed tops that can accommodate different forms of surface material such as paving.

Pop Up Power Supplies® are currently working with town planners and local communities to specify their pop up power units to help provide power for stalls, live music, and food and drink suppliers.
