Client: Caroline Bond
Contractor: High Tech Construction
Type of works: supply of Cedral Weatherboard.
Marleys fibre cement Cedral Weatherboard has been specified as an overclad solution for the stunning transformation of a run-down 1960s home into a luxurious Hamptons-style beach house on the West Sussex coast.
The durable and low maintenance benefits of Marleys Cedral Weatherboard made it ideal for use on this project, where proximity to the sea meant the property was in an exposed location.
The Cedral Weatherboard formed part of a comprehensive renovation to the house, which was also extended and completely restyled by owner Caroline Bond who is developing a portfolio of luxurious holiday rental properties expressing her vision to "bring New England to England". The fibre cement overclad solution proved a practical and cost effective method of turning this vision into reality by completely transforming the original brick-built house.
Caroline Bond purchased the chalet-style property, which is just 100m from the beach at Angmering-on-Sea, in the spring of 2008 and set about transforming it to create a beautiful five-bedroom beach house inspired by her holidays in the American Hamptons and Caribbean.
An essential part of the buildings new appearance was the New England style "clapboard" exterior, and Caroline was delighted to discover that the effect could be achieved with practical and low maintenance fibre cement Cedral Weatherboard.
For me its what defines the house in terms of style, and its all thanks to the fact that we found such a great product, Marleys Cedral Weatherboard, said Caroline Bond. Real wooden weatherboard would have been a nightmare this close to the sea and require more regular maintenance than is practical with this product you dont even need to paint it to your required colour, because it is supplied in a wide choice of great colours.
The Cedral Weatherboard was fixed in a "ship lap" configuration to overclad the existing exterior walls as well as masking the new blockwork on the extension. Cedral Weatherboard can be cut, nailed or screwed just like timber, providing an easy to install, practical facade solution.
The building work was carried out by High Tech Construction of Hove and Managing Director Darren Rix said: The Cedral Weatherboard was easy to install very similar to working with timber in fact. It looks so good that we have since been contracted to install the same product on three other properties in the surrounding area.
Fibre cement Cedral Weatherboard can achieve an A+ rating as defined in the BREs Green Guide to Specification based on generic rating for autoclaved fibre cement (calcium silicate) cladding - (Element Ref: 806220701, 806220675, 806220676)
Cedral Weatherboard is available in a range of 22 colours and four woodstains, and with a matching range of aluminium trims, it is ideal for a wide range of applications.
Caroline now offers other people the opportunity to enjoy the stylish beach house for short breaks and family holidays. For details, visit the website and click onto The Hamptons Beach House.
