Retaining all but the front and side exterior walls, the back elevation of the property has been completely demolished; the entire interior gutted; the floor area increased to 700m² and a reconfiguration of internal space, including a dramatic landing and staircase, once at the rear of the property, has made this 16-month rebuild a complex and involved project. The design brief to Mumford & Wood was to create a look that would enhance the Tudor-style design of this new home and the use of oak frames, complemented with Black aluminium glazing beads and square leaded glass has contributed hugely to the overall vision.

The bespoke oak fenestration system, which is mostly square leaded and includes bays in both gables, has top swing and side swing casements; external doors, some with leaded glass, others clear glazed, and the dramatic staircase fixed-panel portrait window, are all BFRC energy rated, A-C depending on specification, and provide the highest levels of thermal performance. They are BSI Kitemarked and Energy Trust rated, provide premium levels of security with Secured by Design accreditation, and offer superior acoustic benefits.

“The house had great potential, the grounds are lovely, and the location is just perfect for our busy family,” comments the owner of this unique property. “The windows were the biggest investment in this rebuild so it was a serious decision to make with some 70 windows and doors throughout. Every room has great proportions and dramatic windows that create the wow factor our design and build specialist developer said they would.”

The front entrance door, a single, double-width solid oak leaf and surround with fixed, leaded side panels, have also been made to the bespoke dimensions of the householder.
