The Manchester Civil Justice Centre is the largest court building built in the UK since the Royal Courts of Justice. The building is an elegant and beautifully executed response to a complex brief that has made a significant contribution to the regeneration in this part of Manchester.
Environmental sustainability has been integrated into the design from the start; natural ventilation to all areas and a mixed-mode ventilation system serving the courtrooms contributes to the BREEAM rating of Excellent. The building has won a number of awards for sustainable design, including the Project of the Year 2008 at the Building Awards, organised by industry magazine Building, and the Rose Design Awards Architecture Grand Prix Gold Award.
The Civil Justice building is very original in its shape and design and it required special features for the exterior. MechoShade products were chosen over the original specification to achieve the required solar shading solution, which is essential in a working environment.
