Client: Mowlem Design & Build
Architect: Holder Mathias
Fabricator: RPM Shopfronts
Type of works: supplied Comar 6 ladder frame and Comar 7 sliding doors for £1m retail outlet construction.
Comar Architectural Aluminium Systems and their approved fabricator, RPM Shopfronts Ltd, recently completed this aesthetically pleasing Marks & Spencer retail outlet.
Mowlem consulted RPM Shopfronts in the design stage on several aspects of the design brief. Of key concern was that the centre lines on the Comar 6 curtain walling matched the Kingspan claddings joins on its horizontal and vertical planes. RPM found that the capability of Comars V6 estimating software really came to the fore. V6 allowed RPM to produce detailed sectional and design drawings which, when the architect confirmed specification, then seamlessly provided cutting lists for the precise manufacture of this critical element of the design brief.
The project consists of Comar 6 50mm ladder-frame curtain walling and Comar 7 sliding doors, which were fitted with Dormatic automatic door gearing that bolted directly onto Comars unique automatic door beams. Three sets of Comar 7, with automatic operation, were installed to create a draught lobby. Comar 6 and Comar 7 were polyester powder coated to antique White RAL 9010 and glazed with 24mm double-glazed units. French doors were integrated into Comar 6, which led to a café terrace.
Due to the use of Comars technical back up, in both calculation Ix values and V6 capability and the inherent expertise of RPM, the project ran smoothly and achieved the design brief.
