One of the defining architectural features of Vanwall, a new-build home in Guildford, is the protruding overhang roof. The architectural marvel required a bespoke solution that would not only fit the unique roofline element, but also provide zero maintenance, as the overhang would make homeowner maintenance extremely difficult.
Marley Alutec, in collaboration with Roofline Specialist RC Grant & Sons Ltd, designed a fit-and-forget eaves system that also aligned with the architect’s desired eaves drawing.
It was essential that the bespoke products would fit perfectly onto the building’s framework so detailed manufacturing drawings were produced and all build dimensions were cross checked before the individual components were fabricated.
A complex coping and fascia system with flat soffit boards and cill trim was designed resulting in an all-aluminium eaves system with no protruding joint pieces or visible fixings.
The project was realised with the creation of CAD section drawings with 3D images using Marley Alutec’s in-house software, offering two potential solutions, the chosen solution allowed the system to sit flush against the property without any visible mechanical fixings.
Despite the lightweight nature of aluminium, the coping system can withstand hurricane force winds of up to 176 MPH and the butyl adhesive seal is 100% weathertight throughout its 50-year life expectancy, outlasting EPDM compression seals which are normally used in coping systems.
The composite aluminium will not erode and is easy to fix on site, requiring no specialist installers.
The Marley Alutec technical team worked closely with RC Grant & Sons Ltd and architect Studio Bam to ensure the seamless integration of the fit-and-forget eaves system to the stunning Vanwall new build home.
