The prestigious Forest of Arden Marriott Hotel has benefitted from a durable liquid waterproofing solution thanks to Kemper System.
The Challenge
The single-ply roof of this high-end country club and hotel was suffering from severe water ingress. The issue was caused by several vulnerable laps and seams around multiple penetrations and had to be rectified quickly and effectively during the winter months.
To address the problem, contractors Whitestone Property Services (Midlands) sought a robust liquid waterproofing solution.
The Solution
Kemper System’s Kemperol V210M was specified to waterproof the 254 sq. m roof which comprised extensive plant and surface units.
The cold-applied liquid membrane was chosen for its ease of application and fast curing properties, as well as its durability and versatility. It was applied ‘wet on wet’ in a single process using a reinforcement fleece. Once cured, the resin formed a seamless and elastomeric membrane that cannot delaminate.
Due to the vast amount of plant on the roof, the Kemperol V210M was applied on top of the single ply and the work carried out while the building remained open to hotel guests.
Adding to the complexity of the project was limited site access. The contractors had to erect an up-and-over scaffold on the hotel’s roof to create a safe access route to the site. As the V210M is a two-component system, this helped to avoid the need for transporting huge amounts sheeting or other materials which would have created health and safety risks in the constrained conditions.
The Outcome
Speaking about the project, Charlie Marshall, senior contract’s manager at Whitestone Property Services, said:
“We’ve worked with Kemper System for many years and its cold-applied liquid solution was an obvious choice for this project.
“One of the main benefits is it can be applied very quickly and easily using a roller. This provided us with the speed and flexibility to complete the job on time as we had limited daylight working hours.”
