Marshmoor Bricks provided the solution for Highbury’s East Stand

Client: Highbury’s East Stand
Type of works: supplied a bespoke purpose-made brick

One of our large projects was the Highbury development of the East stand.

Our Brief was to find two suitable materials to retain the Art Deco facades of Highbury’s old Grade II-Listed East Stand. We had to find a solution which met with the approval of the Architect, Arsenal Football Club, and the conservation officer for Islington council.

During the process of selection for the buff brick, we submitted several pre-existing options. These were rejected in favor of a purpose made product. Consequently, we approached a small independent British manufacturer in order to procure a specialist selection of buff material. Under our instructions this company produced several trial batches – eventually developing a bespoke purpose-made brick which was approved by all three parties.

The blue brick application required non-standard sizing and an exact replication of original dimensions taken from the development. We approached another small domestic brick manufacturer in order to source a suitable product, since non-standard dimensions required bespoke brick production. Moreover, we arranged the sizing and drilling of the window reveals.

The finished project met with the approval of all three parties.
