Medite Tricoya Extreme creates bespoke doors for prestigious London home

A luxury townhouse in the affluent London district of South Kensington has been fitted throughout with new state-of-the-art doors made from MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME (MTX).

With the objective of ensuring security as well as an impressive art deco finish, Infinitus Bespoke Interiors was entrusted with the task of specifying a product that would be the perfect fit, ensuring uniformity across each door.

“The design brief demanded a glossy, luxurious feel throughout the entire house, and the doors were no exception,” said Andrew Fishwick, Director at Infinitus Bespoke Interiors.

Before even entering the house, a sense of old Hollywood glamour quintessential to the 1930s and 40s is brought to life upon observing the front door. The same goes for every door in the house, foreshadowing the character of the room within.

Andrew explains: “We simply had to make the doors from MTX, firstly because of the practical quality that it is guaranteed to maintain dimensional integrity and strength for up to 50 years outdoors.

“It’s not every day that you can guarantee MDF for up to 50 years, even when exposed to the weather. In the case of the exterior doors, MTX enabled us to do this with confidence—the material is dense enough to provide security and they will maintain their integrity for a lifetime.”

It was also important to the client that the doors be visually stunning, and uniform throughout. As MTX is a composite wood with no grain structure, its versatility in design-led applications is hard to beat.

Andrew said: “We were able to machine each panel into exact sizes and specifications easily, make all decorative elements and ensure each door was an exact replica of the one next to it.

“If we had been using hardwood, I doubt we would have been able to get such a uniform finish across all doors, as hardwood contains inconsistencies such as knots and naturally occurring holes.”

The brief outlined smooth, clean lines, high gloss surfaces, mirror cladding and ambient lighting throughout the home. To match, the doors feature multiple overlays to create a unique 3D style representative of chic 1930s art deco styling, and are finished in an ultra-glossy black lacquer. They were cut by CNC router at the workshop of Infinitus Bespoke Interiors, and finished notably fast: “MTX saved us a lot of time which would have otherwise been spent plaining timber. Instead, many of the decorative pieces left our workshop completely finished and ready for installation, saving time, energy and the client’s money,” Andrew confirmed.

MTX was created as a sustainably produced MDF panel with durability and dimensional stability in mind, providing architects and designers with an entirely new construction material, for design flexibility and endless opportunities for creativity.

As acetylated MDF, MTX can be used in applications where normal MDF panels cannot, and still retains all the design, fixing, and machining flexibility of regular medium density fibreboards.
