Client: Merchant Square
Type of works: supplied a trio of revolving doors.
Merchant Square, a major new mixed use development in Londons West End, is to feature commercial, leisure, residential and retail buildings of the highest specification. Record (UK) has been selected to supply a trio of revolving doors for the entrances for one of the prestigious office developments being built at Merchant Square.
A development managed by European Land, Merchant Square is at the heart of the regeneration of Paddington Basin.
BFLS is the client monitoring team providing detail design solutions for the project and the architects are Mossessian & Partners. Records client for the contract is façade contractor, Sheldebouw. The automated door specialist has not only designed a pair of 4.5 metre tall revolving doorsets in one location to create the main pedestrian access to the property, but also a smaller side door.
All three offer a passage width for pedestrian traffic of approximately one metre, with the walls of the cylinder being made from 13.5 mm safety glass, while the turnstiles are framed in anodised aluminium. In each instance the fully automatic electrically powered mechanism is recessed into the floor and is connected to four floor mounted Downtec radar sensors.
Although the K31 Blasi doors do not incorporate the optional emergency egress function, they do have a number of safety features, with the intelligent controllers being able to distinguish those entering the building from passers by. There are locking mechanisms provided and Record (UK) also offers comprehensive after sales service to ensure a trouble free service life.
A spokesperson for the design team commented: Merchant Square is a high specification property with Record (UK) being selected on the basis of its reputation for door automation and build quality. The automatic revolving door sets make a strong visual statement in the entrance areas.
When completed, Merchant Square will provide over 500 new homes, as well as 100,000 square feet of offices and retail accommodation as part of Paddington Waterside. There will also be a 42 storey residential tower offering views across the capital.
