The EOS team have established expertise in educational project delivery, and has been working closely with reputable partners to complete the build of the new Middlesbrough College, a £68 million project. The scale design caters for 20,000 students and 600 staff, playing a key role in Tees Valley Regeneration’s plan for Middlehaven. The new college stands in a stunning location overlooking the River Tees. The completed project will make this development one of the most vibrant and attractive waterside areas in the North.

The EOS facade stud-and-track were supplied in required lengths to site and were applied to a primary framework of reinforced concrete and hot-rolled steel. This formed the substructure for this stunning development, with a curved facade spanning 200m over four storeys. The EOS design team worked proactively with Laing O’Rourke to establish unique detailing and solve the challenges of creating a large curved hull for the building.

As is typical, the design information supplied by EOS was exact. In this case essential, as the external finishes were single panels, pre-designed and custom manufactured to fit. As part of the EOS best practice supply process, all design information produced by EOS was signed off by the client team prior to manufacture.

In addition to the facade stud-and- track, double studs were provided pre-assembled for use around door and windows to form the jambs to speed up the process of installation. The design of the double studs also incorporated the fixing requirements of the external envelope and the complicated window positions in the elevation were all designed to the Architect’s specifications. Each window was designed and detailed by the EOS design office to value engineer each window and not just provide a general solution.

The EOS facade stud-and- track sections arrived on site in the pre designed sequence agreed with the client to reduce site clutter and allow immediate installation. The EOS team also designed and sourced secondary steelwork as part of the its total client service. The EOS team prides itself on intelligent design and planning, manufacturing quality, effective delivery and installation support.

All sections and profiles are manufactured from steel HD Z39 Galv Coil to BS EN 10140 S390N/mm2 Proof Steel,G275gsm - Normal as Coated Chemical Passivation.
