Mumford & Wood, the specialist, premium timber window and door manufacturer, can claim total compliance with the new Part L Building Regulations in the energy and carbon reduction improvement targets set for October 2010, in both new build and replacement installations. This achievement applies across the entire Mumford & Wood Conservation product range of sliding sashes, casements, French doorsets and entrance doors.
The new and approved Part L Building Regulations affecting replacement windows and doors come into effect 1 October 2010 and will have a significant impact on the fenestration industry. For replacement windows the requirements for Window Energy Ratings (WER) have been tightened to achieve an energy rating of at least band C, from the current E rating, which equates to a combined U-value of 1.6 W/m2k.
Even our standard Conservation ECO casement has an energy rating of B, with an overall frame U-value of 1.4 W/m2k, which is ahead of current requirements and already satisfies the targets set for 2013, says Dave Snowling, managing director, Mumford & Wood, while our ECO spec A rating casements and sashes already satisfy the 2016 targets so we are pleased to be ahead of the game. Following the Part L 2006 regulations the carbon improvement targets were announced at 25% reduction by October 2010; 44% reduction by 2013 and 100% reduction by 2016.
In the new Part L requirements replacement windows must achieve a U-value of 1.6 W/m2k, while 1.8 W/m2k for doors is the maximum limit. This criteria also applies to new build.
For doors our current designs already meet the 1.8 W/m2k max U-value required in the new legislation but we are already working to achieve a 1.6 W/m2k value as standard, continues Dave Snowling.
Bespoke windows and doors by Mumford & Wood are made from premium quality, laminated, clear grade larch which is naturally durable, strong and stable. Windows are factory-finished with high performance double-glazed panels and are available with a choice of period mouldings and details.
