Mumford & Wood on the menu at stylish Colbert

Replacement windows by award-winning Mumford & Wood, the Essex-based specialist manufacturer of traditional and contemporary timber windows, doors and garden rooms, have been specified in the refurbishment of Colbert in fashionable Sloane Square on the Cadogan Estate, at the point where Chelsea, Knightsbridge and Belgravia meet.

High performance hardwood box sash windows from the Conservation™ range have been specially adapted to replicate the fine feature detail of these frames. This bespoke detail matches the original frames exactly and remains in keeping with the existing double doors which have remained. These factory-finished double glazed windows have been stained to order.

“The versatility of our manufacturing methods allows us to work closely with our customers to achieve the most intricate and bespoke window and door designs in any architectural style,” says Chris Brunsdon, Sales & Marketing Director, Mumford & Wood Limited. “Most of our specialist work means that one-size-fits-all is far from reality but this is what we do best and it has proved to be our strength. We were briefed to match the finish and the sight line detail and it is generally acknowledged that the new replacements are indiscernible to those of the original windows.” One particular window has been manufactured oversize and Mumford & Wood were tasked with the challenges of function and operation, both of which have been met successfully.

Rex Restaurant Associates, owners of a grand line up of restaurants which include The Wolseley, The Delaunay and Brasserie Zédel, has brought to Chelsea an all-day, typical French boulevard café tailored to the Chelsea neighbourhood. Colbert, a 6000 sq ft restaurant, is on the site of the former Oriel Restaurant in one of London’s most elite locations.

Mumford & Wood’s box sash windows, which carry Kitemark and Energy Saving Trust accreditations, are perfect for projects in which all the benefits of a modern window are combined with the traditional aesthetic attributes of the architectural period. This enviable period styling, together with the latest in timber window technology, provides superb thermal and acoustic performance with improved security.

Mumford & Wood’s Conservation™ products carry BSI Energy Ratings ‘A – C’, depending on specification, with an overall frame U-value of 1.4 W/m²K which meets and exceeds current Part L Building Regulations’. Manufactured from premium grade, knot-free, laminated timber that will not warp, stick or twist, the windows at Colbert will perform and look beautiful for many years to come while this Parisian-style café buzzes with atmosphere from breakfast until late, seven days a week.
