Timber windows and doors by Mumford & Wood, the specialist manufacturer of bespoke, traditional and contemporary styled fenestration products, meet and surpass the recommended requirements of the new Part L Building Regulations. Although changes to the document will not be implemented until early 2014 the company is confident that the thermal performance of their products will outperform the expected requirements.
Mumford & Woods standard specification, Window Energy Rated (WER) A and B Conservation spring balance sash, box sash (operated by traditional weights and pulleys), and coordinating casement windows already meet the new suggested requirement and all achieve the minimum U-value. The additional option of upgrading to low-e, or low-emissivity, soft coat glass will improve this performance still further with a U-value of 1.3 W/m²K. Low-e glass is the most efficient way to save energy, and help to protect the environment, through glazing. This coating reduces the amount of heat lost through a window by reflecting the heat generated inside the building back into the room.
Recent enhancements to Conservation products, which allow greater flexibility in glazing and finishing options, will shortly include the introduction of new triple glazed Conservation casements and French doorsets which will provide ultimate levels of performance and comfort.
With the exception of our single glazed product and the new slim 12mm glazed units, which exist purely to satisfy the most sensitive historical renovations, says Owen Dare, technical director, Mumford & Wood, all of our Conservation windows and doors are expected to meet and exceed the minimum requirement of new Part L 2014 legislation and probably those of the anticipated 2016 revision.
